I bought this book set for my 8-year old (as a gift for his great progress report) and it was delivered on May 1, 2015. As of today, May 9th, he has finished the entire set. His DS and TV were relegated to secondary status. If that is not a testament to how good these books are, I do not know what is. He could not put it down. I thought he would get into the Harry Potter series and I was excited to have him read them along with Chronicles of Narnia, but the Greek and Roman mythology interwoven throughout the series and the adventures the characters go through in each book won this third grader over.This particular book set only has the first three books (The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, and The Mark of Athena) of the five book series. House of Hades (4th book) and the Blood of Olympus (5th and final book) are not included. They are quite lengthy, average 400 pages each or so, and can make your child spend a significant amount of time reading (which may not be a bad thing). I love the story of how author Rick Riordan started this whole Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus series from storytime with his children. I still hope he will get into Harry Potter and Chronicles of Narnia (amongst other great children classic series) but I am glad that there are books like the Heroes of Olympus series that can fuel and sustain his love of reading.
My 9 year old son absolutely loves these books. He's quite a good reader for his age and it's difficult to find things that are both appropriate and interesting. The Difficulty is that he wants to read books that have inappropriate subject matter because books that are written for his age are too easy and can read them in a little over an hour. These books are great, as are the other series by this author. They are fun, they're interesting, they aren't scary and they are appropriate content for any child or adult who wants to read them. I say adult becuase they are a fun read for anyone! The author has just released two books for two new series and I'm so excited for these as well. Highly recommended

According to the prophecy at the end of The Last Olympian, the Roman and the Greek camps must overcome an age-old, mysterious rivalry and work together alongside the Gods to defeat their greatest enemy ever - Gaea, mother earth herself.These books provide countless hours of entertainment and adventure, battles between brave heroes and terrible villains, many plot twists, and a few very big surprises. If you loved the first series, I guarantee you and your family will love the Heroes of Olympus. This 3-book kindle collection is a very good value for the price. I bought this set, then bought the last two books separately because the price was better than buying the entire 5-book set at once. Highly recommend for all ages!
Was a gift for my nephew. He loved it, & enjoyed the presentation of this gift set of books. He wants to eventually collect all of the titles by this author, so I thought going with something that was visually appealing would make it look nice on the bookshelf. Glad I went with this boxed set for him! It was beautiful artwork in person on the cardboard housing.
According to my 12 year old daughter these books are even more exciting than the first series "if that is even possible"! Bought the 4th book separately and then went online to order the 5th book from the UK since it is not available in the USA until Oct. 7th. (still waiting on the 5th since June 3rd but must admit the expected date listed was July 20th). She devoured each very large book within a day and has since been re-reading them while waiting for the 5th book! Not sure what I am going to do after she reads that one! Apparently these books are adictive :-)
They have been every bit as exciting as the first series, which I read a couple times as they are a quick relaxing way to past time, like watching a cherish movie. Percy Jackson and the Olympians 5 Book Paperback Boxed Set (new covers w/poster) (Percy Jackson & the Olympians) (And they really just take a bit longer than watching movie to read but is just as pleasant.)This new series is complete page turner, engaging interesting characters, a compelling plot, and a great read all around regardless of your age. I read the whole three books in a couple days, during bus rides and breaks.The set arrived in perfect condition and despite being paperback they are good quality paper and covers (not those transparent flimsy sheets some paperbacks come with), I believe the can withstand quite a few re-reads and moving around in my backpack.I am currently waiting for the other two to arrive I've heard they aren't as good but either way I want to know how it all works out.
Fifth grade daughter loves these. It's not just the story - although like most of her age group, she appreciates the action sequences and silly humor. Some of that humor was cheap enough to have the adults rolling our eyes, but to her it was new and fun enough to gleefully read out loud to us. Pacing was enough to keep her interested all the way through, which isn't the case with all young adult fiction. These won't become classics, but they're absolutely worth reading at this age level.
The writing is great as usual. My only complaint is with the quality of the paperback books themselves. The ink was not consistent. It was faded half as dark on every other page. Also the first 305 pages became unglued from the binding( Mark of Athena) I know it is paperback but I am not that rough as to expect this. I am very picky I know. The story is wonderful. I truly am compelled to read more.
